Not just open-plan offices

Post by arzina221 »

In many ideal pictures, everyone is in a spacious, green, light office garden – which has its own problems, by the way – but we work for all kinds of organizations that have very diverse workplaces. For example:

(Higher) education and universities with teachers in the classroom, researchers in the lab, student psychologists on campus.
Hospitals and healthcare institutions with nurses at the bedside, surgeons in operating rooms, doctors on their rounds, the pharmacist in the, uh… pharmacy.
Municipalities and other government organizations with people in social neighborhood teams and parks departments who do not always have their own permanent workplace.
Holiday and bungalow parks with employees in shops, restaurants and swimming pools, and often also part-time and temporary workers.
Technical organisations with thousands of technicians using specialist screens and other equipment and mechanics who sometimes literally have their hands in the clay.
Manufacturing companies with assembly line workers and distribution centers with order pickers.
#DEX is therefore not just about 'the average employee' - in many organizations the knowledge worker behind the desk - but also about people without a desk and without a fixed PC, and to support them in their daily work, in their own context.

Augmented reality (AR)…
This already makes it clear where the technological and physical environment intersect when it comes to #DEX, but there is much more if we include all kinds of technological developments. Think of augmented reality (AR), for example in the maintenance of aircraft, machinery or medical equipment. And sensors in both devices laos telegram data and buildings, so that you can access a workplace, meeting room or server room with your smartwatch, for example.

(Speaking of the latter: more and more organizations have those nice screens in meeting rooms. But we recently visited a client where the system behind those screens has not been working properly since a new version was installed. Now they are all turned off and employees sometimes have to double-check their reservation in a central agenda. Understandable, but that also has an impact on #DEX.)

…and virtual reality (VR)
What you can do with virtual reality (VR) as part of the digital workplace and #DEX, we can only dream about to a limited extent. We do see opportunities to facilitate the same group of employees without a fixed desk and fixed PC, that we mentioned earlier, in their own context. For example, to be able to participate virtually in meetings at the office, where virtual reality can really provide a feeling of (digital) proximity and people therefore really feel that they are working together. We are very curious about ideas and experiences of others.
