An outage briefly disrupted WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger

Post by simabd255 »

An outage made the WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger applications inaccessible on Friday March 19 shortly after 6:30 p.m. (Paris time) and for less than an hour, according to the specialist site Downdetector , before a gradual return to normal.

"Unable to refresh feed ," Instagram posted as a banner on its blank screen, before coming back online less than an hour later. For WhatsApp, the apps were unable to connect, but shortly after 7 p.m., several users reported on social media that they could use the messaging service again.

All three sites are owned by Facebook. "Users have had difficulty overseas chinese in australia data accessing some Facebook services due to a technical issue ," a spokesperson for the group confirmed to Agence France-Presse. "We have resolved the issue for everyone and apologize for the inconvenience ," he added.

In 2016, users had the option to opt out of this data transfer (phone number, last login date) by checking a box in the app. This option has not existed for several years. If you created your account after that date or did not check this option at the time, you are already sharing information with the social network using WhatsApp.

What changes then?
On Wednesday, the social network repeated to Le Monde that this new privacy policy did not extend the scope of personal data transmitted by WhatsApp to Facebook. The messaging service assures that this update of its rules of use aims above all to implement new commercial features on the application.

So, these changes are intended to eventually allow users to communicate with businesses and for those businesses to use Facebook hosting tools to transmit and store their customer service conversations. So, if you interact on WhatsApp with a private company, they will be able to internally process the messages you send for marketing purposes or to improve their service.
