The application manufacturers

Post by Mitu100@ »

So what could be more obvious than at least considering migrating the existing proprietary database systems to PostgreSQL? This not only saves costs, but is also an investment in the future. There has never been and never will be a PostgreSQL company. PostgreSQL is a real community project, comparable to the Linux kernel. Anyone can take part, but no one can buy it. And this is precisely where one of its strengths lies: no investor determines the direction, only what is decided collectively in the community.

Another advantage of PostgreSQL is that it runs and is supported almost everywhere: be it the various Linux derivatives, Microsoft Windows, HPUX, AIX, one of the BSD variations, Solaris bosnia and herzegovina telegram screening or OSX. Whatever is preferred in your company can be used. So if the decision has been made to evaluate a migration to PostgreSQL, what should you pay attention to?

If existing applications are to be migrated, the success or failure depends largely on the manufacturers of the applications. If they are married to a specific product and there is no desire to support another database system, there are only two options: either you leave everything as it is or you consider another application. However, if the manufacturer is willing to work on a migration or even develop the application themselves, then the chances of success are extremely high. Many manufacturers today see the advantage of open source databases and are therefore willing to invest in this direction. There have been a few prominent examples of this recently.
