US mobile operators Sprint and T-Mobile have announced a merger to create the largest player in the 5G market. Sprint and T-Mobile are currently ranked 3rd and 4th, respectively. The new operator will operate under the T-Mobile brand and will be led by John Leger, president and CEO of T-Mobile.
This is far from the first attempt at a merger: the companies venezuela phone number library are discussing this issue for the third time in the last four years. At first, the operators could not agree on who would control the merged enterprise, then the regulator slowed down the deal. As a result of the merger, a telecommunications giant with a subscriber base of 127 million users could be created. This will create serious competition for the two largest American market players: Verizon and AT&T. It is important that the combined operator will have the frequency ranges necessary to cover the entire territory of the United States with fifth-generation networks. Sprint is confident that no one, even the largest mobile operator, will be able to build a 5G network of this scale alone.
However, the deal still needs to be approved by the regulator, and analysts estimate its chances at 50-50, since the merger could threaten competition.
TelcoJournal editorial opinion : The merger of T-Mobile and Sprint may probably become a benchmark for other countries, where players who are not leaders in market share have little chance of building a full-fledged 5G infrastructure. However, in Russia, the "big three" are in no hurry to unite. If we talk about the need to separate and minimize the costs of building 5G networks in our country, the emergence of operator alliances based on the NetworkSharing principle is more likely.
For virtual operators, the unification of large telecoms into such unions can become a prerequisite for expanding the range of services and transferring them to new niches.
