The crux of SEO writing is keywords. So you're mexico whatsapp going to tell me, that's all well and good, but how do you find keywords when you don't have a paid SEO tool or you don't use an SEO consultant?
Rest assured, there are free solutions that will allow you to select a main keyword and secondary keywords for a page of your website or for a blog article.
It's longer, less secure than using a paid tool, but it can help you initially to improve your natural referencing .
I'm taking the quiz to check my site's SEO!
Step 1: Brain dump to find keywords
The famous brain dump or brain wringer. This is the first step to choosing relevant and interesting keywords for your target.
As with finding article ideas and creating your editorial calendar, you must first start with your target and your personas .
Ask yourself: What are they typing into the search bar to find your brand or the article you want to write?
Let’s say you’re an organic cosmetics company. You’ve created your editorial calendar and want to write an optimized article on how to best choose your soap.
As you think about it, you will probably come across key words and expressions such as “how to choose your soap”, “advice for choosing your soap”, “washing naturally”, “organic soap or traditional soap”…
This is already a good step, but it is not enough. At this stage, you do not know which combination of keywords is the most interesting, in other words, which are the most searched queries by Internet users on your subject.
This is why it is essential to move on to the second step to refine your searches .
If you don't have a budget to dedicate to SEO, this article may also interest you (click).
Step 2: The most relevant tools (in free version)
I'm not going to present you 50,000 SEO tools, but only two in free version. One is completely free but does not give you extremely precise results, the other allows you 3 free searches per day.
Google Keyword Planner
Choosing the right keywords after your brain dump is easier with Google's tool.
Google Keyword Planner is available for free from the Google Ads interface (formerly Google AdWords). You can easily find tutorials on the internet to be able to use the tool (basically, you just have to create an advertising campaign that you do not broadcast).

What interests us here is the average number of monthly searches for a keyword . For example, you can see that the query "how to choose your soap" is typed between 10 and 100 times per month. A nice range that grows even more when we go to between 100 and 1,000 times or between 1,000 and 10,000 times. This is why I told you that the tool is not extremely precise.
But this already gives you an idea. You will also have suggestions for related keywords to help you build your article. And above all, the tool is free and can be used indefinitely!
UberSuggest
UberSuggest is a partially free tool. You can perform three searches per day. It will give you a more accurate figure regarding the monthly search volume of a keyword.

Like Google Keyword Planner, Neil Patel's software will suggest a list of keywords related to the query you type.
You can see here that you will probably have to change your main keyword since we are only looking at 10 monthly searches on average.
For example, for “natural soap”, there are 2,400 monthly searches on UberSuggest.
To go further, I advise you to watch this video by Matthieu Verne to understand why two tools can give different results (and why it is better to invest in a tool like Ranxplorer – affiliate link – or to call on a specialist who has access to it):
Step 3: Choose your keywords using Google
Your goal is to improve your ranking and reach the first page of Google search results (and even the first results while we're at it!). So it's normal to use Google to achieve your goals!
Auto-completion
When you type a query into Google, you've probably already seen additional terms appear that can help you rank for less competitive keywords . These are called long tail keywords: they are queries that are longer than a simple keyword, such as "natural soap", but also more precise.
They will be less sought after but will bring you qualified traffic with almost guaranteed clicks on your web pages (and a higher conversion rate!). If you are an SME, this is a technique to develop to make a place for yourself among the biggest.
Tip: You can also use this technique on YouTube or Amazon to find new keyword or content ideas.
