A belief shared by many cybersecurity experts

Mr. Bruce is not only a cyber security professional and data privacy specialist, but he is also the author of many books. He continuously contributes to raising awareness among the masses about the need and importance of online privacy and cybersecurity.

In addition to the technical aspects covered, one of the key questions we asked Mr. Bruce Schneier during our brief meeting was about his views on the future of email security, and the role of OpenPGP in particular. Mr. Bruce corroborated the fundamental and prevalent role of OpenPGP in the foreseeable future for email security. The biggest problem with OpenPGP is its complexity of use. Mailfence has been contributing to solving this problem since its very creation.

– Complexity is the worst enemy of security –

We are convinced that the easier a system is to use, the list of australia whatsapp phone numbers more people will use it. Mailfence is unique. OpenPGP used to be a complex world full of tools that depended on command lines and their execution platform, with plugins and add-ons that depended on browsers. With Mailfence, it became a very easy-to-use web-based application .

Some interesting sessions

RightsCon Brussels – 2017: Session on “Cracking encryption: An increasingly heated debate with no end or resolution in sight. Where should it go from here?”: Jens Henrik-Jeppesen, host (CDT, UK), Bart Preneel (COSIC KU-LEUVEN, Belgium), Amie Stepanovich (Access Now, USA) and Saikat Datta (CIS, India).
An interesting and heated session on “finding solutions” regarding nation states’ attempts to weaken or end encryption. Panelists discussed different aspects where technologists, policymakers and other institutions have failed to define the importance and urgency of encryption.

We use encryption primarily to keep data confidential. This is done across a wide spectrum of disciplines and for a variety of purposes. Most often it is to evade potential monitoring or surveillance attempts. The industries include banking, telecommunications, healthcare, military, government agencies, private and public institutions. The point is that even if there are malicious people using encryption to communicate (or for cyberattacks, such as ransomware and others), the solution is not to ban encryption. Criminals also drive cars to do their daily tasks, but we would never think of banning cars for this reason.

The panel also discussed the role of academics, private and public bodies, and other individuals. The goal was to set the record straight about how fundamental end-to-end encryption is to a democratic society .
