Designing a strategic website is not an easy task. When you have no idea how design works and you want to create the website yourself, you feel like you are getting into a big mess.


Web design is a huge world, in which you have to know everything to make the website work perfectly. After all, your website is still your digital home.

To start with, the fonts and colours of your website must be chosen carefully. Just as it is important to choose the best images . And you must also set clear objectives to guide the user.

What is strategic web design
Before we get into the subject, let's talk a little about the history of web design.

The first website was published on the Internet in 1991. And from then on, it has been non-stop.

I'm sure that in the last century you told someone that you were a web designer and they asked you: What is that?

Well, look, web design is an art. Specifically, the art of planning and organizing specific content that will then be published in online media.

Nowadays, who doesn't have a website? It's rare to find a business that doesn't have an online presence. Even small neighborhood businesses are getting their act together.

But I want to go a little deeper into the subject and here, in this guide, we are going to talk about how to design your website strategically , which is not the same as a simple design or a corporate design.

Difference between web design and strategic web design
As we have seen in the previous definition, we understand web design as the act of taking content and organizing it for later publication.

The difference with strategic design, as its name indicates, is based on organizing that content with strategy.

But what strategy?

As I already mentioned in another post in which I talked about the objectives of a website , strategic web design consists of setting objectives before publishing the website.

The strategy we are going to use is based on creating a spider web, in which we capture the visitor. In this way, they will not be able to leave without performing one of the actions we previously defined.

The home page is the page of the website that receives the most visits. That is why we cannot risk designing for the sake of designing . We have to define objectives and actions that we want the user to perform.

We can set different goals. We just have to choose one, but here are a couple of options:

Objective 1 : Guide the user to subscribe to the newsletter. Then the email marketing strategy you have prepared comes into play.

This point is fundamental. The problem is that most people ignore it and do not give it any importance. Just by creating a visual identity for your website, you will be able to stand out from most of your competition.

Why create a visual identity?
The reaction of people who don't know you and visit your website for the first time will depend on what they see of your brand. This is like when we meet someone and our first impression is based on how they look.

But what does all this mean?

This is called the halo effect and is one of the most well-known cognitive biases in psychology . This effect consists of creating an erroneous image based on a person's quality.

For example, we meet a person who we think dresses well. Our mind immediately associates that person's good attire with his personality being good too.
