One in three websites does not comply
A transition takes time and energy. The fact that energy is being put into making the Netherlands more digitally accessible is evident from the accessibility declaration register . Government agencies provide insight into the accessibility status of their websites here. Super transparent!
For our analysis, we zoomed in on the 1293 websites of Dutch municipalities that are registered here (reference date 22 April 2021). This shows that since the introduction in 2018 and the obligation in force since 23 September 2020, only 6% of the websites have been fully compliant . So there is work to be done.

The figures mentioned are not intended to germany telegram data pillory municipalities. In fact, the same source concludes that all efforts are currently being made to get digital accessibility up to standard. In the third quarter of 2020, a record number of status changes were implemented in the register. The trend also seems to continue in the fourth quarter of 2020 and in quarters 1, 2 and 3 of 2021.
A good sign that accessibility is increasing, but it mainly shows that it is on the agenda. When all websites will be fully compliant remains the big question for now. And then we are only talking about websites . What about other resources?

Tip of the iceberg
That register we were talking about is meant for government websites . But digital accessibility goes much further than just the website. We are therefore afraid that this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Because what is the status of accessibility of, for example, e-mail and other communication expressions ? And what about healthcare institutions and other organizations for whom the obligation does not apply? Apps are planned for June 2021. What is the next step as far as we are concerned? E-mail.
